EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Last night at our regular PAC Meeting, one of our teachers, Mr. Bryan, presented information regarding Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation for students at Dunsmuir Middle School. It was excellent information and a step toward fine tuning our procedures here at Dunsmuir. We will be gathering supplies to help us prepare for any emergency that may arise and we will continue to gather information and work with our Board to keep students safe. Our PAC graciously allocated $1,000.00 to help us work toward our goal. A huge “Thank You” to our PAC.

Over the last two years, we have released our students early due to poor weather conditions and a power outage. When these issues occur, we will do our best to contact all parents and give as much detail as possible. It is very important for parents to check their emails when these issues occur. It is easy for students to call their parents on their cell phone, but sometimes the students do not convey the proper information or may not provide full details.

In both situations, we only released students to their own parents. If students were asking to leave with a friend, we had to have verbal consent from that parent. It may seem over the top, but our priority is to keep our students safe. It is a huge job to sign out 750 middle school students, but our office staff is truly amazing and we seem to complete the task within 2-3 hours. I would also like to acknowledge the patience of the parents who arrive at the school to pick up their child. It gets busy and as you know, the parking around the school is not great.

As always, we appreciate your feedback. We are always looking to improve our procedures.

Thank you
