HOMEWORK CLUB – ATTENTION PARENTS OF STRUGGLING MATH STUDENTS! Do you know the #1 challenge that we see many students facing in math classes and in homework club? It is that students do not know their 12 times tables. If students don’t know their times tables it affects their ability to quickly think of factors, multiples, common denominators and more. This in turn slows down everything else they are trying to do in math. They are wasting precious class time looking up simple multiplication equations or doing them on their calculators. So how can you help? There are simple solutions like making or buying flashcards to drill with them, and there are also multiple on-line practice sites as well. Many on-line practice sites are game based so they feel less like work. One program that we would strongly recommend for students who do not know a majority of their times tables up to and including the twelves is called REFLEX math. The site can be found here https://www.reflexmath.com/ and it can also be purchased as an app for iPads or iPhones. It does have a cost of $35 for the year per student, but it is the best program we have seen for helping kids learn their times tables and it includes the related division facts which is awesome. Here are some links to a few good FREE on-line math facts practice sites: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables http://www.multiplication.com/games/all-games Also, don’t forget that homework club runs every Thursday from 3:15-3:45 in room #203. This can be a great time for students to get some one on one help or even just a quiet space to work.

DRESS CODE FOR DUNSMUIR MIDDLE SCHOOL It is that time of year. The sun comes out and the clothes seem to come off. We have been reminding several students about the dress code over the last few weeks. If we find that the dress is inappropriate in any way, students will be told to find appropriate clothing. If there is nothing for them to wear or borrow from a friend, parents will be called to bring appropriate clothing to their child. School is a place of work and therefore we encourage all people inside the building to dress appropriately. Thank you for your support.
