ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION FEE DUE
Reminder to parents: If your child is playing soccer, running cross country or planning on playing basketball this season, then Athletic Fees are due. We ask that each student participating on a team at Dunsmuir Middle School pay a fee of $40.00. Please pay this fee online at School Cash Online. Instructions can be found on our website. The fee pays our membership in to LIMSSA, covers referee costs, rental facilities, uniforms, and equipment. If you have any questions please contact the Athletic Director – Meghan Caldwell mcaldwell@sd62.bc.ca or Darren Russell drussell@sd62.bc.ca.

Grade 7 classes will be participating in the updated FSA from October 2-November 10. GRADE 6 IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunization packages are due back to the office as soon as possible. Our Grade 6 Immunization Clinic is scheduled from 9-12 on Tuesday October 24th and Wednesday October 25th. Information Notice can be found on Community page; Parents

INTERNET/SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL LITERACY EDUCATION 101 FOR TWEENS, TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS
Darren Laur will be presenting to our whole student body on Thursday, October 19th from 1-3pm. He will also be presenting to any interested parents on Thursday, October 19th from 7-9pm at Dunsmuir Middle School. The idea behind his presentation is to help students to pro-actively understand the enabling power of digital technology and mobile communication. He has also added how to mitigate the sometimes unintended consequences of high risk/undesirable on-line behaviour. During this presentation, Darren Laur would like to encourage all students to bring their cell phones (if they have one) as he will have students pull them out to adjust security settings during the sessions. We hope you can attend the parent presentation that evening.

  • There will be a Grade 6,7, and 8 GIRLS Basketball Practice today after school from 3:20 until 4:30. Please see Mrs.Booth or Ms.Caldwell if you cannot make it. Games will be starting in 2 weeks.
  • There will be a Grade 6,7, and 8 BOYS Basketball Practice on Thursday after school from 3:20 until 4:30. Please see Ms.Caldwell if you cannot make it. Games will start in 2 weeks.
  • Reminder to all Cross Country runners that you have practice after school today – please meet Ms. Caldwell outside the gym.
  • Reminder to all grade 6,7, and 8 girls basketball players that you have practice from 3:20-4:30 today after school.
  • Reminder for anyone that is interested – teachers and students that there will be drop in basketball on Friday after school from 2:00pm-3:00pm.
  • Don’t forget every Wednesday at lunch there is homework club in Mrs. Stewart’s room #203
    • Homework club runs from right after nutrition until lunch is over.

  • Reminder that pizza will be available in the foods room at Nutrition Break on Friday!

  • Random Acts of kindness club’s 1st meeting is today at lunch after nutrition  in Mrs. Knoke’s room. Room 204.
  • It’s a long weekend and that means: turkey, stuffing, and family. And what better way to spend time with family than to practise your instrument and put on a show!?
    • Mr. Duque-Park is strongly encouraging all music students to take their instruments home and practise this weekend. Leaving your instrument behind only makes it sad and lonely.

  • Reminder to all students that tomorrow is Spirit Day. That’s right, show your pride by wearing Dunsmuir clothing if you have it!
  • You can also wear red or black tomorrow!
  • Reminder to all Cross Country runners that you have a meet today at Beaver Lake. If you do not have a ride please meet Ms. Caldwell outside the gym at 2:40. Race maps are located on the Athletics board outside the gym.  You are to get out of class by 2:40 please.
  • There will also be open gym on Friday after school from 2-3 for anyone interested.
  • Join Mr. Bryan for “Weird Science” in the Science Club today at lunch. Science Club is in room 211.
  • A reminder to jazz band students who are new to their instrument, you are rehearsing to day at lunch following nutrition with Mr. Duque-Park in the music room. Please be on time.

LIBRARY EMAIL
Dear Parents/Guardians – if you received an email from our library today stating that your student had an overdue book, please disregard. This was not sent out from the school level, but it was some sort of a glitch that happened at the higher level (the system programming side).   • Just a reminder that homework club is on today in Mrs. Stewart’s room #203.
    • Make sure to bring whatever you need help with and the supplies you need to do your work.

  • The leadership meeting that is usually on Thursday mornings in Ms. Johnson’s room is cancelled this week.
  • The cooking club meeting today at lunch is cancelled.  Safety orientation will happen next Wednesday at lunch in the Foods room!

  • SPC cards are discount cards for students. You can get deals at stores like Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Adidas, David’s Tea, Pink, Reebok, Amazon.ca, Bath & Body Works and more!
  • You’ll also get a 2 for 1 coupon for Kernels Popcorn! SPC Cards will be available for $10 in the office until October 15th.
  • There are still spots available for the Power to Be a Girl Conference on Tuesday October 17th. Please see Mrs. Clarke in the counselling area if you need another permission form!
  • Just a final reminder that We Day paragraphs must be submitted to Ms. Baas in the CLC by the end of day today!
  • Music students, today is your last day to hand in your order forms for black shirts. See Mr. Duque-Park for more details.
  • A reminder to Jazz Choir that there will be class tomorrow morning at 7:45am – be on time please.
  • Starting next week, we will be running a contest to name the new TV station.

It’s Pizza Friday! Pizza is $3/slice and sales begin during nutrition in the foods room.

Leadership Meeting in Ms. J’s room at lunch today. That’s leadership in room 201 today at lunch.

Sports:

Drop in Basketball is today after school for one hour! Please make sure you have proper gym strip and running shoes if you would like to join in!

 The Hip Hop Crew meets today after school! The Boys crew and all beginners start at 2:00 and the intermediate/advanced crew will start at 2:45. If you aren’t sure which crew you are in please see the information and lists posted on the dance studio doors.

 
 

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt day! Wear you orange shirts to show your support and commitment that every child matters

Sew art creative club is today at lunch.

Grade 8 students interested in going to WE DAY in Vancouver on October 18th need to submit the following to Ms. Bass by next Tuesday. Please submit one paragraph about what it would mean for you to get to go to WE DAY and a second paragraph about what you would like to do within our school to promote social justice

Students who missed the meeting yesterday for the Dunsmuir TV station, please stop by the office at lunch today to pick up an application. TV station applications are due at 1:00 today in the office.

Sports:

All Cross Country Athletes who would like a race map – you can pick one up on the Athletics board in front of the gym. Also if you are planning on going to the meet today at Lambrick Park please find Ms. Caldwell today and let her know.

Students interested in playing Basketball who didn’t sign up yesterday can see Ms. Caldwell at lunch in Portable 11 today!

Reminder to any students interested that there will be Basketball drop in tomorrow after school for one hour. Please make sure you have proper gym strip and running shoes if you would like to participate.
